Landywoods / raw dog food
May 17th, 2010, 8:54pm

We've had some issues with Landywoods deliveries since going raw last year - was wondering whether anybody else had that? The key problem is that despite many many assurances that they will, they haven't ever called us to confirm the time of delivery (the arrangement has been that the driver ring us half an hour before delivering); the number they've got on the paperwork is also only ever my number, not my partner's which we've repeatedly asked them to ring (as it happens, neither phone got a call anyway).

Last time round (thankfully in February) the food sat in the drive defrosting for hours before my partner got home, and some of it was unusable. We got a refund for it against our next order, but only against what was in our original order; actually they had substituted quite a few items against chunked meats, which were the ones that went off - so we lost another £7 or thereabouts without a refund. (We hadn't let them know in time about the substitute, so I guess that was fair, but I don't entirely understand how the process works - shouldn't they know best what they've substituted, rather than asking us??)

We want to stick with the raw diet, and they're the cheapest around, and the quality of the food is good, but I'm beginning to have misgivings about placing another order with them. Has anyone made similar experiences with them, and do you know of other suppliers?

On that note, how much can we buy in one sitting from Scallywags, and how much notice would you require??

I've never had a delivery problem but then we are always here but certainly we've had stuff substituted (ever tried making liver cake with kindey - it doesn't work) and things wrongly labelled.

I've looked around at other suppliers but no one comes near them for price.  My butcher was looking at making some pet minces as he's getting a puppy soon and he doesn't know how they do it for the price.  I don't think I want to know.

Anyway we do keep a small stock here.  You'd have to pay a bit more to buy it from us.  If you let me know what you are likely to need over a month I can have it here for you providing I have freezer space and of course providing that Landywoods can supply it.

I buy all my dog meat from the Farm shop just around the corner from Scallywags.  (Westlands Farm Shop)

They always have pet mince in the freezer, 50p per 1lb tube and a good selection of offal.

They will also provide bones and chicken carcassas on request.
