Scallywags Bronze, Silver and Gold Challenge

For
those looking for something different, why not take part in the Scallywags
Challenge. There are rosettes up for grabs. All you need to do is show one of
the staff members on three different occasions that you and your dog can achieve
each of the tasks below.
Bronze
- Recall past a toy and
sit in front of owner
- Walking on a loose lead between two
points, to include a right turn, dog must end with sit by your side
- Wait whilst owner picks
up a toy, which must be 6 feet away. Toy to be placed by instructor.
- Teach dog two new
tricks, these must be done on command or hand signals, no luring
- "Polite Gate"-Stay whilst owner goes
through gate, leaves gate open, then returns to dog
- Be able to examine your
dog whilst your dog remains calm. Check ears, teeth and feet
- Be able to attach your
dog's lead whilst the dog is in a sit
- Owner has to know three
breed-specific facts about their breed, or if it is a cross, the most likely
breed.
Silver
- Recall past a piece of
food and
person
- Walking on a loose lead
with left and right turns. Also being able to walk past other dogs and
people as distractions
- Wait whilst owner moves
away, talks to the instructor, then passes instructor, and calls their dog
to join them
- Another two tricks
- Being able to meet
another person in a controlled manner (no jumping up)
- Stay in reception
paddock, whilst owner make a cup to tea/coffee, so therefore out of sight
- Three training tips
owner has learnt with his/her dog
Gold
- Recall at companion
club from all the other dogs, must end in a sit in front of owner, then a
finish. Instructor to give OK for owner to release dog back to group
- Walk dog off lead at heel
whilst completing a slalam e.g 10 paces forward, right turn, five paces
forward, left turn, walk up to instructor with dog, dog in a sit whilst
owner has a short chat with instructor
- Wait either on or off
lead, but MUST be to heel, walk in a straight line, one word command for dog
to wait, handler continues straight ahead, turns back to dog , continues
past dog, turns , walks back to dog and collects dog as walks past.
- Another two tricks,
which along with ones they perfected in bronze and silver have to go in
sequence or in a routine. They can tell a short story or do a short heel
work to music
- Out of sight, stay for
five minutes
- Polite walking though
gate with distractions on other side of gate
- Target send away
- A written piece on
their dog, to include why they had chosen the breed, what they have learnt
about the breed, and what the breed is designed to do, and how to deal with
this if inappropriate behaviour
