Funday - June 4th

Around 130 dogs brought their families along to the fun day on June 4th. With classes for everyone from cutest puppy to clever clogs obedience, it was an enjoyable day for all. The threatened rain didn't appear but neither was it too hot. Steve Bradbury, ably assisted by several of his girlfriends did a marvellous job on the BBQ, which went down very well. One of the most popular classes of the day 'Best Trick' was won for the 2nd year running by Sharon and her Yorkie Bumbles, with her oscar winning 'handsup - bang!!'

The informal obedience winner with a maximum 20/20 was Kirsty with Jasper. Very well done. Following close behind in 2nd & 3rd place - Jane with Kelly and Joyce with Torie. Winner of the beginners obedience were Mark & Jigsaw and the Clever Clogs class was won by Mary & Taffy.

Over 70 dogs entered for the fastest recall. The overall winner in an amazing 5.09 seconds, (I couldn't tell you the distance but if you were there you'll know it was long) was Sue with her Border Collie Tess. The retrieve challenge, collecting tennis balls from a paddling pool was won by 8 year old Conner with his dog Ben with a total of 16 balls in one minute.

Other winners included:
Obstacle course. Jo & Cara
Prettiest bitch. Julie's Ebony
Most handsome dog. Tina's Hercules
Waggiest tail. Sam's Una
Best six legs. John & Zara
Best brace. Holly & Kirstie
Best unalike brace. Hercules & Bandit
Cutest puppy. Heidi's Levi
Best rescue Liz's Horus
Best titbit catcher Daniel's Millie
Junior handler Brett with Oliver
Best mover Bernard's Monty

The last class of the day in the novelty ring was for the dog that looked most like a celebrity. There were entries from Richard Gere, Oliver Reed, David Bellamy, Chris Eubank, Carol Smilie, Debbie Harry, Mr Spock, Dogmatix, The winalot dog, Santa's little helper & Chuckie. After much deliberation the judges awarded the prize to Mr Spock, alias Millie with her owner Daniel. It was the ears that clinched it!

Swanmore Fete

We were asked again to put on a display at the fete at Swanmore on carnival day. It was very hot but the dogs were kept in the shade until it was our turn in the arena. As usual our dogs and owners were a credit to us, the dogs walking nicely round the arena on the lead, perfect stays and recalls all together and the ever popular tricks, like leg weaving, spin, rollover & bang and what would we do without Sharon & Bumbles. Her party piece for today was to retrieve Sharon's hanky when she sneezed and then to sneeze herself for her nose to be wiped. Brilliant! And what can we say about the puppies. Five very brave owners who came along not knowing what to expect and did us proud. Well done to

Lana & Riah (C.K.C.S.)
Ruth & Poppy (Labrador)
Clare & Sam (Westie)
James & Molly (B. Collie)
Sarah & Teazle (Terrier)

All aged between 3 & 5 months old and showed a very impressed audience just what you can achieve with a young puppy. The recalls were brilliant!!! It is always nerve-racking to put on a public display especially as you never know where the burger van will be situated or who may burst a balloon next to the arena etc. Thanks again and well done to the puppies & their owners and

Joyce & Torie (Schnauzer)
Gill & Teddy (Collie)
Marie & Harry (Labrador)
Rachel & Shadow (Sheltie)
Sharon & Bumbles (Yorkie)
and Hayley who handled my half trained dog - Guess.
